RESEARCH ON THE EVENNESS OF SURFACINGS

This article describes the research conducted to measure the defects in the evenness of new surfacings. An apparatus for measuring evenness was developed and tested. It is towed manually and records evenness defects on a paper tape. Several roads were studied and most of the stretches analyzed showed very unsatisfactory evenness. With the help of the above apparatus and a 4 m-long screed, A specification for the control of surfacing evenness was drafted. Conclusions discuss the production and laying of bituminous mixtures and guidelines are put forward for the construction of pavements with even surfacings. /TRRL/
