WHITE OR YELLOW LIGHT? PART 3B

WIT OF GEEL LICHT? DEEL 3B

This article deals with the perceptibility of signal lights. Under extreme circumstances which are of no significance to road traffic the colour dependence of the threshold value proves to be considerable. Few useful data are available as regards the colour dependence of acuteness of perception. The glare and the re-adaptation closely related to it are dealt with in detail. In this connection a few slight and inconsistent differences between the two colours have been determined, which do not affect road traffic. Finally attention is paid to the consequences of aging. As a rule visual performance declines as age advances. However, there is no material indication that the extent of this decline depends on the colour of the signal. /TRRL/
