DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF STAYED GIRDER BRIDGES IN GERMANY
ENTWICKLUNGEN IM DEUTSCHEN SCHRAEGSEILBRUECKENBAU
A detailed study is made of the cables in stayed girder bridges and damage sustained by them through corrosion or various other causes. Examples of damage are given. A table summarizes and compares the characteristics of 12 stayed girder bridges built in germany: location of the bridges, year of construction, size of span, number of bearings, overall width, height, drawing of transverse cross-section, number of cables, weight of steel used, number of bridge towers, cable arrangement and dimensions. Mention is made of the present maximum span length (350m) and of the possibility of extending it greatly in the future. /TRRL/
