CORROSION OF BARE CONCENTRIC NEUTRALS IN URD SYSTEMS: A REVIEW
This paper reviews reports that have been written from 1961 to 1974 on the corrosion of the concentric neutrals on buried cable in URD systems. An attempt is made to clarify some misunderstandings such as the growing tendency to catalog the failure of concentric neutrals as ac corrosion, or refer to rectification as the cause of the failures. From this review, it appears that a number of causes exist, working separately or collectively, and that each field situation has its own peculiarities. Several factors which result in concentric neutral corrosion, as identified by the author's own experience, are presented.
