TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS TO THE ENERGY "CRISIS"
Several suggestions are discussed for increasing transportation efficiency and improving fuel economy. These suggestions include the following: expand rail transit; expand transit bus sevices; improve traffic controls on major urban expressways; commuter carpooling; use smaller automobiles; eliminate inefficiency in commercial airline operations; expand intercity rail passenger service; expand intercity bus service; substitute rail for trucks on longer distance intercity freight hauls; and remove other regulatory restrictions of transport.
