THE EFFECT OF WEATHER ON TWO CLASSES OF CONTAINER SHIPS IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC
The author suggests formulae allowing the loss of speed to be ascertained in a given sea state at a given heading. The loss of speed due to weather of two classes of containerships is established here on a basis of these formulae and this speed is compared with the speed loss obtained from an analysis of the data extracted from the Mate's log. The relationship between wind and waves and their influence on speed is also discussed.
