ICEBREAKING DRILLSHIP FOR OFFSHORE EXPLORATORY DRILLING IN THE ARCTIC
This paper discusses design considerations for a drillship intended for extended ocean operation in the Arctic offshore areas. Environmental protection and safety features, shipping rules, and the design of a unique system for improving icebreaking capability are discussed. The discussion includes descriptions of the habitability of the vessel, navigation and communication equipment, as well as mooring and drilling equipment, and the establishment of a base camp to provide operations and support services to the vessel.
