GEOTECHNICS AND MECHANIZED TUNNEL BORING--THE ECHAILLON EXPERIENCE

LA GEOTECHNIQUE ET LE CREUSEMENT MECANISE DES TUNNELS-EXPERIENCE D'ECHAILLON

Report on the experience gained with the boring of a road tunnel in the Alpine crystalline range at Echaillon (Dauphine Alps). The 4.7 km tunnel (diameter: 5.8 m) was bored with a WIRTH machine in 4150 hours of work. This operation was monitored by the Technical Division of the French Electricity Board and the Toulouse Mineralogical Laboratory.
