SKID RESISTANCE, RECYCLED ASPHALT GET JOINT FED-STATE TEST
Details are given of the design and execution of a towfold test on recycled asphalt courses and skid resistant pavements. The 6-mile test included four types of repairing: (1) a 1.5 mile section recycled "as is" using sprayed emulsion; (2) 500-600 ft of road recycled using precoated synthetic coarse aggregate in front of the repaver forming a blended aggregate surface; (3) a mile-long section tested using Reclamite asphalt rejuvenator; and (4) 3.5 miles recycled by the Cutler repaver using a modified emulsion mix with precoated 3/8 - in. synthetic aggregate "sprinkled" on the finished pavement and rolled in. The costs of this test project are discussed. The project is considered successful up to the present time.
