IMPROVED SUBGRADES OF THE A25 MOTORWAY

LES COUCHES DE FORME DE L'AUTOROUTE A25

The article presents the results obtained on several types of improved subgrades built in the lille-dunkerque A25 motorway between meteren and bergues. Earthworks were difficult because of the geological conditions of the site and the poor quality of the soil. Four types of improved subgrades were laid: (1) fly-ash stabilized with lime and gypsum; thickness: 0.30 m; quantity used: 53000 m2; (2) silt stabilized with lime and cement; thickness: 0.35 m; quantity used: 243000 m2; (3) dredged sand taken from the coast near dunkerque and stabilized; thickness: 0.30 m; quantity used: 400000 tonnes; (4) burnt shale. /TRRL/
