MARGINAL CHANGE IN DISPLACEMENT FOR CONVENTIONAL NAVAL SHIPS
The ability to predict the impact of a piece of equipment on a ship system and its cost would be invaluable to ship and equipment designer alike. The assumption is made that the support parameters for each piece of equipment can be broken down into requirements for manning, electric load, weight and space, and that these requirements are linearily superposible. A computerized ship synthesis model is used to develop factors (Marginal Weight Factors) through which impact to the ship system can be evaluated. The principal result is a set of Marginal Weight Factors for Destroyer type Naval surface combatants. These factors are used to evaluate several pieces of equipment and the results compared to the model prediction to demonstrate the validity of the assumption and the accuracy of the method.
