MARINE BOILER DESIGNS FOR THE SEVENTIES. GROWING EMPHASIS ON EFFICIENCY AND REHEAT
Steam turbine propulsion is selected for many large tankers especially in the size range above 200,000 tdw. While the steam cycles have tended towards standardization, the steam generating plant has evolved along different lines in Europe, Japan and the USA. The paper summarizes the design parameters of the various designs including construction details for single and two-boiler installations in the 30,000-50,000 shp range. Reheat and regenerative combustion air heating are included.
