DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF THE NEISS REPORTING SYSTEM AS RELATED TO BICYCLE-ASSOCIATED ACCIDENTS.

The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) is reviewed and evaluated with respect to the sampling methodology employed, the collection and management of the data, and the uses to which the results are put. Regarding bicycles specifically, previous studies in the area are reviewed, and the treatment of the NEISS reporting of bicycle-related accidents is discussed. Recommendations are made concerning the work to be done during the remaining eight months of the contract period. /HSRI/
