RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH AN LNG SHIPPING OPERATION

This paper summarizes work that has been done to analyze the risks associated with the movement of large LNG tankers within a specified route within New York harbor. Specifically it covers the risks of collisions during transit within the harbor that are of sufficient severity to cause accidental discahrge of the product. The hazards presented by accidental discharges are evaluated, and the risks to individuals on land near the shipping channels are evaluated. This paper is based on testimony and exhibits presented by Escogas LNG, Inc. before the Federal Power Commission, Docket Nos. CP73-47 and CP73-88, August 1973.
