CHARACTERISTICS OF HOUSEHOLDS WITH AND WITHOUT CARS IN 1970
The report compares expenditure patterns and characteristics of households without cars and those of households with cars in order to help to quantify the economic background of car availability. Households with cars on the average have higher incomes than those without; at a given income level the two types of household differ greatly in their sizes, proportions of old and retired persons, housing tenure and amenities. The expenditure patterns of the two types of household also differ significantly. Estimates of amounts of travel by bus and rail and of average weekly distance travelled per car are made with the help of expenditure data and comparative figures are presented /Author/TRRL/
