HANDLING FUEL PROBLEMS - AGRICULTURE

Energy consumption by the agriculture industry accounts for 13 percent of the total energy use in the U.S. Each acre of the 354 million acres of cropland required an average of 22 gallons of petroleum fuel in 1974. This year, to put an additional 10 million acres into production, an additional 220 million gallons of fuel will be required. This pamphlet suggests that farm fuel problems be handled at the local or State levels. Ways by which farmers can deal with their fuel problems are suggested, and several means by which farmers can conserve energy are listed. The ten regional offices of the Federal Energy Administration and their addresses are given.
