The author states that the Vehicle Inspection Association of the Rhineland is now publishing annually, in association with other surveillance organisations, statistics on defects in various types of passenger cars. For clarity the vehicles have been divided into age groups. In order to keep the publication current the evaluation is restricted to three age groups: up to 2 years old, up to four years old and up to 6 years old. So that a comparison of vehicle types could be made, average values have been established, and these are used to illustrate graphically those areas where excessive numbers of defects occur.
