APPLICATION OF DEFORMATION MEASUREMENTS TO THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES
APPLICATION DES MEASURES DE DEFORMATION A L'AUSCULTATION DES OUVRAGES SOUTERRAINS
This book studies the problems of the stability of underground structures and that of the deformations of the support and lining of galleries. Two methods of measuring short-term and long-term deformations were developed, which take into account the special stresses caused by work on the construction site or the operation of tunnels opened to traffic: accurate measurements of very small deformations (possibly smaller than 0.1 mm); photogrammetric measurements for the non-destructive testing of the transverse cross-section of tunnels (deformation in the range of millimetres). The accuracy of both methods was investigated by checking results of laboratory and in-situ tests. Both methods are outlined, and results obtained with each are discussed together with the advantages and field of application of each method. /TRRL/
