TECHNICAL SAFETY EVALUATION OF THE NS SAVANNAH
This report supplements previous reports on the N.S. Savannah in order to update and assess topics of general interest in the field of nuclear propulsion, particularly those affecting the safety aspects of a nuclear ship's operation. A summary and analysis is presented on further maintenance of the Savannah and on the repair and replacement work performed during the first and second outages and inspection periods with the resultant structural changes on a number of items. Also analyzed is the incidence of certain structural changes on the assumptions chosen for the assessment of potential accident situations, and the status of the port operating criteria presently applied and the repair and maintenance work requirements. It is the opinion of the joint working group, on the basis of material presented in this report, that the N.S. Savannah port operating criteria cannot be automatically extrapolated to other nuclear ships without taking into consideration factors particular to their design.
