COMBINED TRANSPORT
Transporting goods internationally often involves the combined use of highway, rail and water transport. This can become a complex matter for the manufacturer dealing with all the various shippers. International conventions have tried to create some uniformity. However, a comprehensive plan covering all modes has not existed. The International Chamber of Commerce has proposed Rules for a Combined Transport Operator who would handle the CT document and be the sole agent the manufacturer would deal with. Disputes arising out of any phase of the transport could then be brought into court against the CTO. These rules would greatly simplify combined transport.
