MEASUREMENTS OF HF AND VHF IGNITION NOISE OF REAL TRAFFIC
In an effort to estimate the relevance of VHF noise produced by individual cars and by bunches of cars, measurements were carried out which were extended to the HF bands that are of interest for fixed services e.g. transatlantic communications. The investigation involved a voltage calibration of the meters by means of a voltage source, and a confrontation of the performance of these two field strength meters in order to check the performance of their antennas. Enhancement coefficients between the noise due to a single car and the same produced by a bunch of cars were determined. Results show that with individual cars the mean of the interference measured on frequencies ranging between 90 and 150 MHz exceeds the CISPR limit by a few decibels. With regard to peak values, the same levels are reached by both the individual cars and with continuous traffic, because no compensation can be obtained with only three cars on the same transversal line. However, a higher mean interference level is shown in the latter case than in the former.
