THE EFFECT OF RUNWAY TRACTION ON COMMERCIAL AIRPLANE STOPPING SYSTEMS
The effect of runway traction on commercial airplane stopping systems is discussed from the airframe manufacturer's point of view. Traction variations with runway contaminants, ice, snow, and rain must be considered along with factors such as airplane and stopping system configuration, weather conditions, performance information, and pilot technique. Recent Boeing brake control system work is summarized as an indication of industry effort to improve performance. Technology requirements and recommendations for improving adverse runway performance are included. /SAE/
