DOCUMENTATION OF PROLO AND MLOGIT{ TWO NEW CALIBRATION PROGRAMS FOR BUILDING DISAGGREGATE CHOICE MODELS
This report documents two programs, PROLO and MOLGIT, operational at NYSDOT for calibrating probabilistic choice models using disaggregate data. These programs have been shown to be highly useful in transportation planning contexts, not only in mode choice but in other choice situations such as number of autos owned by a household. The principal advantage afforded by these tools is the ability to build reliable models for estimating and forecasting, using very small samples of data, e.g., one-tenth the original data required by NYSDOT's response surface technique in estimating mode choice. Possible applications and advantages are described, with reference to a number of successful applications by NYSDOT' Several recent NYSDOT improvements to PROLO (e.g., weighting of observations, hill climbing, classification tables) are described, and detailed user instructions are provided. /Author/
