BUS BOARDING TIME - A REVIEW OF STUDIES AND SUGGESTIONS FOR INTERPRETATION

This review defines time as measured in studies of passengers boarding buses, describes some types of surveys, and gives examples of various procedures for analysis. Several cautions are mentioned which should be borne in mind when interpreting results of such studies, and some guidelines are offered for future studies. A summary of time observed in studies of boarding of urban buses in Britain and some European cities is provided. Most of these studies took place between 1969 and 1974. Although there were wide variations in the values obtained by these studies for boarding and related times, no attempt was made to attribute these variations to differences in particular factors such as ticket equipment, vehicle design or fare systems, because sufficient information about such factors was not always provided in the reports studied. /Author/TRRL/
