MOTORCYCLE HANDLING AND COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ANATOMY OF A TURN
The single track vehicle has a special requirement for "out-tracking" to enter a turn and then later "in-tracking" to recover from a turn. This is a feature which is rarely mentioned in motorcycle training or driver education. The out-tracking required to enter a turn has serious implications in the success of a collision avoidance maneuver. Experiments show that lack of training and unfamiliarity with this phenomenon reduces the ability to avoid collisions. Motorcycle rider education should include coverage of this topic. Films illustrate the principles involved in slow motion. /Author/
