AN ANALYSIS OF ALCOHOL SAFETY SCHOOLS (PHOENIX DRIVING-WHILE-INTOXICATED COURSE). 1972 ANALYTICAL STUDY VI
This report provides a description of the Phoenix Driving-While-Intoxicated Course, an evaluation of the course, and a statistical summary on the Phoenix DWI school program. The DWIC was originally designed for drivers convicted of DWI. In 1972 the course was expanded to accomodate the Phoenix Alcohol Safety Action Project. The total ASAP program made significant contribution to traffic safety in Phoenix by reducing alcohol related crashes. Increased enforcement and the DWI School were the major countermeasures contributing to crash reduction. The DWI school is having a payoff in reducing recidivism-subsequent involvement in alcohol related accidents and arrests. (MW)
