DIAMOND INTERCHANGE TRAFFIC CONTROL. VOL. 12. AN ANALYSIS OF DIAMOND INTERCHANGE SIGNALIZATION
The report presents a systematic approach to the signalization of diamond interchanges. Attention is directed to signalization concepts which are applicable to the real-time control of diamond interchanges. A critical review of the phasing practices currently used for diamond interchanges is also provided. One of the principal products of this study is the identification of all the basic elements that make up a phasing pattern. After evaluating each phasing pattern developed, two preferred sets of phasing patterns are identified. A pair of typical diamond interchange phasing patterns from the field are described for the two different preferable situations. Applicability of the above phasing concepts to the real-time control of diamond interchanges is also discussed.
