THE MC COWAN TEST: PROTOTYPE FOR VOIDED POSTTENSIONED CONCRETE BRIDGE DECKS
This report describes the field tests carried out on the Mc Cowan Road Underpass in Toronto, Ontario. The structure has a three-span, continuous, posttensioned concrete deck, which was cast in situ and contains longitudinal circular voids. The test is part of a research study undertaken to determine the cause or causes of cracking observed in a large number of superstructures of this type. The cracking is predominantly, but not entirely, orientated along the length of the top surface of the deck and located directly over the voids. /RTAC/
