THE INFLUENCE OF FRAME SPACING VARIATION ON FACTORS AFFECTING THE COST OF A TRANSVERSELY FRAMED VESSEL
The Mariner Class dry cargo ship was investigated to establish a correlation between the ship construction costs and the frame spacing, based on the principles of structural analysis. The theoretical analysis is based on the stress behavior of the Mariner Class dry cargo ship as presented in Maritime Administration's plans, and Russo and Sullivan, under loading conditions as required by the Classification Society. This stress investigation includes the determination of all kinds of stresses, longitudinal and transverse bending stress components as well as shear stresses, and the consideration of buckling behavior.
