CONSTRUCTION OF LOW COST, HEAVY DUTY FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

The main criteria of vertical and horizontal alignment, the typical cross-section, the typical pavement design and the main works of construction and quality control of this kind of road are presented respectively. The surface of this kind of road is chip stone seals instead of bituminous concrete, and its design life is at least 20 years. An example of one specific project of this kind of road is given. The statewide performance monitoring system and the accelerated loading facility are introduced briefly. This kind of pavement provides a cost saving of 30-50% in comparison with other pavement types. (a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no 823365.
