WANTED AND UNWANTED EFFECTS OF THE FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SEASON TICKET FOR STUDENTS ON THE MOBILITY. TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT POLICY BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN AREA, TO AN INTEGRAL APPROACH ON REGIONAL LEVEL. TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COLLOQUIUM 1989, THE HAGUE, NOVEMBER 30 - DECEMBER 1, 1989. VOLUME II

GEWENSTE EN ONGEWENSTE EFFECTEN VAN DE STUDENTENKAART OP DE MOBILITEIT

Because of the adverse effects of exhaust fumes upon the environment, various measures have been tried to persuade people to use public transport instead of private cars. One of the possible measures is to provide certain groups such as students, soldiers, officers etc with a "free" public transport season ticket. This paper describes a survey which investigates how much introduction of such a ticket for students can help to decrease private transport. The cost of the ticket is taken out of their student allowance. Four scenarios are presented for the long term. Most students will own a car once they finish their course. It is thought that they will use public transport more often if they are encouraged to use it when they are students. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 825702.
