DIGITIZED MAPS HELP ANALYSE PARKING PROBLEMS. TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT POLICY BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN AREA, TO AN INTEGRAL APPROACH ON REGIONAL LEVEL. TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COLLOQUIUM 1989, THE HAGUE, NOVEMBER 30 - DECEMBER 1, 1989. VOLUME I
PARKEERMILIEUKAART
This article describes the development of a computerized map, which shows the need of parking space in streets as a result of both future local car ownership, and the parking requirements of local shops, or other urban facilities. This computerized map is produced with a geographical information system (gis). These maps visualize possible future problems in detail by confronting local parking capacity with local need for parking. By changing input data, e.g. Parking capacity, or future development of a neighbourhood, different maps can be instantly produced, possible parking problems identified, and solutions tested. Solutions such as parking garages may provide relief but are expensive. Or perhaps, enough parking places can be made at street level with little or no space left for landscaping. The computerized maps will be a new means to improve neighbourhood development planning. Local governments and planners will have more precise information to make their plans for further city development. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 825702.
