THE IMPACT OF ENERGY ON THE COST OF TRANSPORT BY INLAND WATERWAYS: AN EXAMPLE OF BULK TRANSPORT. ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN LAND TRANSPORT. PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR ORGANISED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES, DIRECTORATE GENERAL FOR ENERGY, LUXEMBOURG, MAY 16-18, 1988

This paper is concerned with the fuel consumption evaluation for the transport of coal and ore by pushed convoys between liege and antwerp and Rotterdam ports. Some additional comments are also presented concerning higher capacity convoys and the transportation on rhine river. After a short presentation of the computation method of the total amount of exploitation expenses per ton/kilometer for the inland navigation transport in general, this method is applied to evaluate the part of the energy cost in the total expenses in several navigation and loading conditions.(a) for the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 824263.
