STRUCTURAL CONNECTIONS. STABILITY AND STRENGTH. CHAPTER 1. OVERVIEW OF CONNECTION BEHAVIOUR
The role of steelwork connections both in the traditional sense of transferring loads between members and in the more general sense of influencing the way in which a complete structure responds to load is presented and discussed. Attention is given to the individual components used in steelwork connections, and the concept of failure modes and design models for assessing the load-carrying capacity of different types of connection is presented. The ability of connections to provide restraint and to transmit loads is discussed within the context of their influence on the performance of frame structures. It is suggested that the linking of studies on connections with an awareness of the influence of connection behaviour on the response of the structure should feature in all research within the general area of structural connections.(a) for the covering abstract of the book see IRRD 824259.
