GEOMETRICALLY NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF BURIED CYLINDERS. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989

A geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis of buried flexible tubes is described. The procedure uses a frictional-adhesive zero-tension interface model, an elastic boundary element to represent the ground, and it can be used to solve problems featuring a number of different load responses at the interface. Comparisons are made with previously reported solutions to confirm the validity of the procedure, and a number of new buried tube buckling problems are considered to demonstrate the effects of structural and interface nonlinearity.(a) for the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
