GROUND SURFACE SETTLEMENTS DUE TO SHIELD TUNNELING WITH FACE PRESSURE. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989

Three dimensional boundary element analysis has been performed to investigate ground surface settlements caused by shield tunneling. Difference of shield type such as closed type shield (earth pressure and slurry types) which has earth pressure at tunnel face and open type shield (hand mining and mechanical types) is taken into account in the analysis. Effects of geometric conditions, geological conditions and shield types on three dimensional settlements are made clear through a parametric study.(a) for the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
