A PARALLEL SOLUTION OF SOME GROUNDWATER FLOW PROBLEMS. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD IN NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989

An algorithm for use in the parallel solution of some groundwater flow problems is presented. The approach adopted makes use of the new computational device, the transputer, and is programmed in the new associated language, occam. Problems of consolidation, horizontal infiltration in unsaturated soil and coupled heat and mass transfer are solved via the finite difference method. The suitability of the approach proposed is clearly illustrated by virtue of the high degree of parallelism achieved. This encourages the extension of the work to more complex problems currently requiring large computing resources.(a) for the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
