HIGHER ORDER DISPLACEMENT DISCONTINUITIES IN COMPLEX VARIABLE. APPLICATION TO THE DESCRIPTION OF CRACK PATH WITH FRICTION. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD AT NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989

Many numerical methods are usually used to solve, in plane elastic body, structures involving cracks. To study the propagation of these cracks, the displacement discontinuity method seems to be well suited and particularly appropriate. Using cauchy integrals, the displacement discontinuity is presented in complex variable and used for its simplicity and in the aim to obtain more general solution. Analytical solutions are then derived for higher order elements for circular and straight discretization. This method is then used to describe the crack propagation with friction in plane strain. The problem of frictional crack propagation is solved by using quadratic optimization with linear inequalities contraints. The displacement discontinuities of the crack represent the contraints variables of the problem.(a) for the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD 824029.
