GENERAL ELASTIC VISCOUS PLASTIC CONSTITUTIVE RELATIONSHIPS FOR 1-D STRAINING IN CLAYS. NUMERICAL MODELS IN GEOMECHANICS. NUMOG III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD AT NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA, 8-11 MAY 1989

This paper describes work which models the observed elastic, elastic-plastic and creep behaviour of clays in one dimensional multi-stage loading by three mathematical functions. These functions are then combined to give a general equation. The general model is calibrated using data from long duration constant stress tests on sensitive champlain clay from batiscan, and on winnipeg clay. It is validated by comparing predictions of strain rate and time effects with those obtained experimentally using a sensitive clay from Quebec (batiscan clay) and a plastic clay from Manitoba.
