A MONOPOD DRILLING SYSTEM FOR THE CANADIAN BEAUFORT SEA
An exploratory drilling system has been developed for year-round operations in the shallow water, nearshore ice zone of the Canadian Beaufort Sea. The platform is bottom-resting, easily moved from one drilling location to another and employs a single structural leg. A review of the platform's features includes the configuration, structure and basic operations. Ice load criteria with the implications of operating in the near-shore ice zone are outlined. Foundation design for this mobile, gravity-founded, relatively light steel structure is discussed. Also discussed are model test results of seakeeping, towing and lowering and raising procedures.
