DATABASES FOR ROAD ENGINEERS

The six papers presented at an information workshop held at the 14th arrb conference, and one commissioned paper, are included in this report. The engine, atlis, lasors and inroads databases are all addressed by individual papers and there are three general papers covering the range of databases available, an user's perspective of the road and road transport electronic databases and the future of information provision. The database specific papers cover the history, current position and likely future developments. Some of these papers also provide some hints on searching the databases and two provide some statistical information about the databases. The final paper provides an overview of developments in text storage and retrieval systems and links them to likely changes in the way in which users will approach information use in the future.
