LATERAL BUCKLING OF BEAMS
A repeated concern with attempts to generalize classical results for the problem of lateral buckling of originally straight end loaded cantilever beams suggested the present account. Earlier efforts are reported and previously unpublished material is also included. The theme of the account is how to deal with the effects of warping stiffness, and the effect of transverse shear deformability, on the classical formulas without consideration of these effects. The results described are, in the author's view, capable of being improved upon. It is hoped that placing them on record in their present form, will lead to further developments by others.(a)
