RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE TREATMENT OF WATER INFLOWS AND OUTFLOWS IN OPERATED UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES

This study by the association francaise des travaux en souterrains on the treatment of water inflows in operated underground structures supplements two previous recommendations, on "diagnosis methods for lined tunnels" (first published in 1981) and "maintenance and repair works" (first published in 1983). Problems posed by waterproofing repairs are presented within a general context; hydraulic galleries and sewers are also discussed. The report covers eleven major topics: operational conditions; the impact of the underground structure on the surrounding ground; the nature of the information to be compiled about the structure; means of investigation; diagnosis of hydraulic galleries; renovation and reinforcement methods for hydraulic galleries; drainage; water collection and removal; waterproofing grouting in the surrounding ground; methods of improving the watertightness of the lining; and methods of installing the waterproofing on the intrados. The French title for this article is 'le traitement les venues et des pertes d'eau dans les ouvrages souterrains en exploitation.(a)
