CHALLENGES AND CHANGES: JAPAN'S TUNNELLING ACTIVITIES IN 1988: PART II
This second part of a report by the Japan tunnelling association, summarizes the current state of underground construction in Japan. Four types of project are summarized: (1) four large immersed river crossing expressway tunnels in Tokyo; (2) double tier quadruple tunnels carrying highway and railway traffic through a national park; (3) a four lane 11 km expressway tunnel driven by full face new Austrian tunnelling method (natm) through the tanigawa mountains and (4) a waterway tunnel in the miyanaka district of niigata prefecture. A brief history of the Japan tunnelling association is also given.(a)
