DRIVING WHILE DISQUALIFIED
The report begins with a description of the law relating to disqualification and the way courts use disqualification. Some recent research on the characteristics of certain types of motoring offenders is reviewed. The main part of the report presents data from two separate samples of disqualified drivers, from the metropolitan police district and from part of Lancashire, and compares the motoring offence records, criminal records and social background of those who have at sometime been convicted of driving while disqualified with those who have not. Conclusions are drawn about the circumstances in which disqualification is most likely to be effective in keeping drivers off the road. /TRRL/
