FOLLOW-UP STUDY OF SPEEDS ON MAIN ROADS: MEASUREMENTS MADE DURING 1986

In this report, measurements recorded during the seventh year of the Swedish road and traffic research institute's (vti) follow-up study of speed levels on main roads are presented. The follow-up study consists of spot speed measurements. This years measurements were carried out at 39 different locations on two or three occasions during the year. The locations chosen were on straight, level roads with varying speed limits and cross sections. Distinctions are made between cars, motorcycles, cars with trailers, lorries with or without trailers and buses. The trend of increasing traffic speed levels, which was prevailing during the first part of this decade, was broken in 1986. For all road categories the speed level is lower for the 1986 measurement.
