LINING OF MULTILAYERED ALUMINIUM PANELS IN THE SANSINATO TUNNEL ON SS 280, "DUE MARI"
RIVESTIMENTO CON PANNELLI MULTISTRATO IN ALLUMINIO DELLA GALLERIA SANSINATO LUNGO LA SS 280 "DEI DUE MARI"
Visibility inside a tunnel depends not only on the existing lighting, but also on the capacity of the walls to reflect the light from vehicle headlamps. This article describes the installation of a 3 m high aluminium "sandwich" lining in the 900 m long sansinato tunnel on state highway ss 280. The prefabricated (alucobond) three layer panel (aluminium, polyethelene, aluminium) was selected for the following characteristics: adaptability to the contour of the tunnel; good thermal expansion without inducing tensile stresses to the support system; durable electrochemical oven-baked paint finish; consistent surface smoothness; deformation to absorb impact without recoiling. The panels weigh 5.5 kg/m2 and in case of fire the polyethelene produces no toxic gases. In the conditions (traffic and environmental) of the sansinato tunnel, the panels required cleaning and polishing 2-4 times a year. (TRRL)
