WEIGHT AND DIMENSION REGULATIONS GOVERNING INTERNATIONAL TRUCKING IN THE NORDIC REGION

Weight and dimension regulations governing large trucks constitute one of the key determinants of the physical and operating characteristics of truck operations. In many countries, separately and in common markets, active programs are in progress to relax and rationalize weight and dimension regulations thus improving trucking efficiency. Harmonization between countries is essential to utilize the regulations in different countries the best way and to facilitate inter-modal transport. For this there is a need for better understanding of the regulations and the important linkages which exist between truck operating efficiency and road/bridge requirements. Based on this, a project titled more efficient international trucking in the nordic region: ideas for weight and dimension regulation was initiated by the tfk road traffic committee. This report is one of a planned series of six documents from the project.(a)
