LONG DISTANCE COACH TRAVELLING. MODAL CHOICE, TRAVEL PATTERN AND MODEL DEVELOPMENT

EXPRESSBUSSTRAFIK PAA VAEG. FAERDMEDELSVAL, RESMOENSTER OCH MODELLBERAEKNING

This report presents the results of empirical investigations concerning modal choice, travel habits and patterns. The second part presents testing and refining of a model for estimating travel demand, the "organization model". Information was collected by a postal questionnaire, passenger interviews on board coaches and passenger counts. The studied regions were the communities of Vaestervik and Joenkoeping and coach services in those regions. The organization model is developed for calculating travelling volumes between cities/regions. The model is based on a number of submodels for different travel categories. Data from the empirical research were used to test and develop the model, especially concerning coach travelling. (Author/TRRL)
