APPLYING COMPUTER-INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING CONCEPTS TO CONSTRUCTION

Computer-integrated construction (CIC) is designed to make better use of electronic computers to integrate the management, planning, design, construction, and operation of constructed facilities. This research reviews existing process models, modeling literature, CIM data and integration efforts to compare the manufacturing and construction industries; and develops criteria for and selects a process modeling tool. The study also builds process models for construction processes via site visits, case studies and expert reviews, and compares construction and manufacturing processes to identify areas for cross fertilization. It also defines successful manufacturing tools that can be implemented in construction.
